ELAINE WILLIAMS TOMORROW'S TEACHERS SCHOLARSHIP ­— Promoting Future Educators

WHAT IS THE ELAINE WILLIAMS SCHOLARSHIP?
As an retired educator, Elaine Williams has always had a love of teaching and promoted education.She received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Colorado. In memory of Elaine Williams, her sons have established the Elaine Williams Tomorrow’s Teachers Scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded to high school seniors and current undergraduate students who plan careers in elementary or secondary education. In partnership with Youth Matter Inc., scholarship funds will be raised through memorial donations from individuals, businesses, organizations, and corporations. Elaine Williams served as an Advisory Council Member in support Youth Matter Inc.’s TROOPS TO YOUTH® Initiative.

THE PURPOSE:
To supplement college costs, from tuition to books to room and board for a student(s) that are majoring in primary/secondary education in pursuit of becoming a professional teacher.

HOW MUCH IS THE SCHOLARSHIP?
Scholarships will be awarded to two students in the amount of $500 each for their college education. More scholarships are awarded based on funds raised.

HOW CAN I APPLY FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP?
The winner will be decided based on the following merit:

  1. Writing one (1) essay — The essay is to be hand written within one 8 ½" X 11" page of lined notebook paper. Typed or computer generated essays will NOT be considered.
  2. Essay — "What are my dreams and how do I plan to achieve them?"
  3. Grade Point Average of 2.8 and above; proof of GPA submitted
  4. Evidence of community service
  5. 2 reference letters (one must be from a non-family member)
  6. Proof of college enrollment

A Scholarship Committee reviews the applications and tThe scholarships will be awarded at at Youth Matter Inc.'s Annual Black & White Gala Fundraiser of each year, normally held in October or November.
